Foreign Students

Foreign applicants (without a permanent/valid residence permit for the duration of the study period) must document sufficient finances for the period of study (one school year at a time). In addition, applicants must document intention for coming to study at OIBC and intention to return. Please see more details below. 

 

Student Residence Permit

In order to obtain a student residence permit, applicants must in short demonstrate the following:

  • Sufficient financing for the study period (bank statement etc.)
  • Documentation on housing for the period of study (house contract, letter from house owner etc.)
  • Having paid tuition (school fees)
  • Demonstrated interest in the program of study
  • Intention to return to one´s home country after completed studies
  • For certain nations, specific requirements apply

Financing

Sufficient funds for living expenses:

Applicants may show sufficient funds in one of the following ways, or by a combination of these:

  1. Own funds of NOK 89 000,- in his or her own account in a Norwegian bank (for foreign applicants residing in Norway)
  2. Own funds of NOK 89 000,- deposited into the school´s guarantee account (for foreign applicants residing outside Norway and who do not have his/her own bank account in a Norwegian bank)
  3. A current work offer from a registered company in Norway (greater Oslo area) for part-time work (maximum 20 hrs/wk, except for holidays and vacations) with a salary equal to NOK 89 000,- plus approximately 20 000,- for estimated taxes. Work offers should be documented by a work offer on a company stationary, stamped and signed. In addition, the employer and applicant must also fill out UDI´s form for applying for a temporary work permit. See UDI´s description of this process.  

Tuition, books and study materials:

Applicants must also pay at least one semester´s tuition (school fee). At present tuition is NOK 14 000,- for Year 1. In addition, there will be costs for books and study materials. For Year 1, this is estimated to about NOK 3000,-. Tuition for Year 2 will vary some from area of concentration to area of concentration and will be announced during the school year. 

 Accepted applicants will be notified to which accounts the various payments should be made. 

Documented Study Interest and Intention to Return

Foreign applicant must also document why they would like to come to study at OIBC as well as document intention to return back to his/her home country after ended study period. These are in most cases considered requirements by the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) in order for a study permit may be granted. Certain restrictions may apply to certain countries. Some of the documentation that could help in the application for student residency are:

  • Recommendation from pastor or church leader
  • A letter from self stating intention for coming to study
  • Declaration of intention to return back to home country after completed studies
  • Documented ties to home country (marriage certificate, birth certificate of children, documentation on property owned, granted study leave from employer in home country with promise of continued employment and/or promotion upon return)
